THE CAMPUS CHRONICLE

Spotlight: Jerome Myles Sr.; A Jack of All Trades

Jerome Myles Sr., a Natchez, Mississippi native, has been heavily committed to Alcorn State University (ASU) for the past 21 years. He is a husband and proud father of 6 children and has been married to his wife of 24 years, Dr. Elizabeth Myles, who is a Marketing specialist for the School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences at Alcorn State University. He has served and dedicated his time to WPRL 91.7 FM (Alcorn’s campus radio station) where he is the Gospel Music Director.

At the age of 16, Myles found his love for radio after a well-known Disc Jockey named DJ WJ Squalls offered him a job-shadowing opportunity. Myles took this chance and gained knowledge of the ins and outs of the radio business. While at Alcorn, Myles has worn many hats. He has worked as the Program Director, Music Director, and Internship Director. He has also served as the halftime show announcer for the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite from 2012 to 2015. Following that, he served as a co-announcer for the ASU Football team in 2018. “I do it all here,” stated Myles.

For 15 years, he and his former co-host, Charles Edmond, have highlighted the Jefferson County High School Football team on Friday nights on WPRL. Myles recently gained a new co-host, Windell “Bones” Harried. One of his greatest accomplishments in radio has been the WPRL Toy Drive. He has been doing it for the past 13 years and the event is dedicated to the children in Jefferson and Claiborne counties. The Toy Drive begins every year at the end of October and goes until December 20th. Another one of his many accolades is that he is also a three-time statewide (Mississippi) winner of the Gospel Announcer of the Year award.

Myles stated, “My father told me, son one thing about life, a quitter will never win, and a winner will never quit. So, choose this day, which one are you going to be? And so far, I’m not a quitter.”
