Alcorn’s Pre-Alumni Council Hosts ‘Floetry’

Alcorn State University’s (ASU) Pre-Alumni Council hosted their first event for the semester entitled, ‘Floetry’ on Wednesday, November 8th, 2017 in the Little Theater of the Fine Arts Building at 6:00 pm. Admission was $2 for spectators and free for those who performed.

Patrick Herbert Jr., Student Government Association President 2017-2018, was Master of Ceremony (MC).  The purpose of the event was to showcase the artistic talents of the students of ASU. Several students recited original spoken word pieces and poems while other participants performed original Rap/R&B songs as well as a few who sang songs from popular artists such as Daniel Caesar, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu.

The house band for the night who played backup instrumentals for the performers was Vibe. During intermission the audience participated in karaoke which was filled with laughter and harmony.

MC Herbert stated, “I truly had a ball tonight. Thanks once again Pre-Alumni Council for allowing me to host the Floetry event but I have to give credit to the amazing talents that the students of Alcorn shared with us.”

“I think the event turned out great. It was actually much better than what I had anticipated. In the beginning we didn’t have that many performers but at the last minute everyone showed up and showed out. I’m looking forward to doing this again,” stated Tommie Green, Pre Alumni Advisor, Alumni Affairs Coordinator and Alcorn Alumnus.
