THE CAMPUS CHRONICLE

A Loud Silence

Awkward silences filled with hollow answers

Tears streaming down faces

Souls crying for unanswered statements

Eyes searching for familiar traces

Lives changed in a matter of moments

The hardness of one bears volume on others

Weighing heavy against our minds

And bringing shame against our mothers

We can’t talk about our problems

Because we’re afraid to be insane

And lonely and blinded by a game

We fall for all the wrong people

Which is why we have to change

We are broken and battered like old ships

Our pain haunts us like ghosts rising from the dead

We are zombies to others

Numb to love

So we don’t have new lovers

And we will never know why we stick around for the rocky seas

When we have yet to find land and still have yet to see

Sadness wavers around us like dark clouds and overgrown trees

Creating a self-imposed jail that has no key

When we have given up on ourselves

And can’t find the strength to fight

And when we are free-falling into darkness

It is the love of those that matter that give us light
