Actor Spotlight: Gabrielle Union

Gabrielle Union was born October 29th, 1972 in Omaha, Nebraska. She was raised by her mom Theresa and her father Sylvester Union. Her father was a military sergeant and her mother was a company manager and social worker. Her parents divorced after 30 years of marriage, but she and her two siblings (Kelly and Tracy) were loved and did not have to bare the hardships of a divorce. Union graduated from Foothill High School in 1989 and went on to attend college at UCLA where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1993.

Union’s career path was not initially acting, but it was one she fell in love with after getting her first role in 1997, where she appeared in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Following that she appeared in Sister, Sister, Smart Guy, 7th Heaven, She’s All That, and 10 Things I Hate About You. Between 2000-2009, she appeared in movies such as Love & Basketball, Bring It On, City of Angels, The Brothers, Deliver Us from Eva, and Bad Boys II.

On March 16th, 2022 Union’s latest acting venture had her cast in the new Disney movie Cheaper by the Dozen which is a remake of the 1950 film. Although the film was harshly crucified by critics, it portrayed the story of a loving family that persevered through immense obstacles. In March of 2022 Union was cast as the lead in the third season of the Apple TV show Truth Be Told.

Union is married to former Miami Heat basketball player Dwayne Wade. The couple have 4 children together (She is the stepmother to three and she and Wade have a daughter together).
