Actor’s Spotlight: Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill was born on May 5, 1983 in Jersey, Channel Islands. He was raised in a Catholic household and is the fourth of five boys. Marianne Dalgliesh, his mother, was a secretary in a bank and Colin Cavill, his father, was a stockbroker. He received his education from St. Michael’s Preparatory School in Saint Saviour, Jersey before attending Stowe School in Stowe, Buckinghamshire.

In 2001, Cavill began his film career with a role in the film Laguna. From 2002 to 2007, he had many appearances on the small screen such as The Count of Monte Cristo, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, Midsomer Murders, I Capture the Castle, Hellraiser: Hellworld, Red Riding Hood, Tristan & Isolde, and Stardust.

In 2011, Cavill was cast as the leading role in the mythological film, Immortals. It was also confirmed later that year that Cavill was cast as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel set for 2013. He gained international recognition for the role and returned for its sequels Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League which expanded the D.C. Extended Universe. In 2015, he co-starred alongside Armie Hammer in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Later in 2018, he co-starred alongside Tom Cruise in the spy action franchise, Mission: Impossible-Fallout. In 2019, he portrayed protagonist Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher from the popular video game series.

Unfortunately, his Superman days may be behind him, but his career still has plenty of years to fly.
