Actor’s Spotlight: Meagan Good

Meagan Good was born on August 8, 1981 in Los Angeles, California to Tya Wardlow-Doyle, a former child star manager and Leondis “Leon” Good, who is a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer. She was reared with her three siblings, La’Myia, Colbert, and Lexus in Canyon Country now known as Santa Clarita. Good graduated from the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts in 1998 and began acting as a full time profession shortly thereafter.

From 1998 to 2001, she appeared as Nina on Nickelodeon’s hit show Cousin Skeeter. Good later took on small roles in the films 3 Strikes (2000) and House Party 4: Down to the Last Minute (2001). A major year for Good was in 2003 where she landed roles in the action drama Biker Boyz and the romantic comedy Deliver Us From Eva, which helped her transition from child to adult actress. She also appeared as the character Vanessa for five episodes during the third season of My Wife and Kids, before being replaced. In 2004, Good starred in the action film D.E.B.S., and received a Best Actress nomination at the 2005 Black Movie Awards.

Between 2005 and 2009 Good continued to steadily work but only in miniscule films with limited financial success such as Venom (2005), Roll Bounce (2005), Waist Deep (2006), Stomp the Yard (2007), One Missed Call (2008), The Love Guru (2008), and Saw V (2008). In 2012, Good was in the film Think Like a Man which was a movie based on Steve Harvey’s book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. In 2013, Hollywood began to take notice of Good when she co-starred alongside Will Ferrell in the film Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. In 2014, she reprised her role for Think Like a Man Too, the sequel to Think Like a Man. Good’s most recent role is that of adult Darla in the Mega hit SHAZAM! which was released in April of 2019.

Good has won numerous awards ranging from the Outstanding Youth Actor/Actress from the NAACP Image Awards in 1998 for Eve’s Bayou, the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture from the NAACP Image Awards in 2008 for Stomp the Yard to the Choice Movie Actress Romance in 2012 from the Teen Choice Awards for Think Like a Man.

Good married Devon Franklin in 2012. He is an Executive for Columbia Pictures and a Seventh-day Adventist preacher. The couple reside in Los Angeles, California.
