A native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd was reared in Sturgis, Mississippi. In 1986, she received her Bachelor’s degree from Alcorn State University where she majored in Chemistry. She later went on to attend Mississippi State University where she attained a Master’s and Doctorate in Forest Products with a minor in Chemistry both in 1993 and 1998 respectively.

Boyd has served as an industrious employee of Alcorn where she has worked as an Associate Professor of Plant and Soil Science for 21 years. She is grateful for the opportunities that she has received and looks forward to continuing to mold and enlighten students. “Alcorn is a great place to work, inspire students and collaborate with colleagues,” she said.

Over the course of her career, she has learned a lot about teamwork and diligence. She believes that true happiness comes from supporting and motivating one another. It is her belief that, “Every effort is sustained by helping and working with others.”

Boyd is keen on inspiring young people and hopes to become an author of inspirational stories. In the future, she plans to travel and teach the gospel as a missionary.
