After a couple of weeks of being pushed back, Drake, on March 18, 2017, finally released his newest and highly anticipated album entitled “More Life”. The album contains 22 songs which is the most that Drake has ever had on any of his albums. Fans were scratching their heads to the fact that “More Life” started off with songs that had a multicultural feel to it. A variety of genres were included such as R&B, Dancehall, Grime, Trap and Afrobeat. Songs such as ‘Jorja Interlude’ and ‘Madiba Riddim’, could have been mistaken for Jamaican songs. Throughout the rest of the album, Drake’s normal flow is easily recognizable but with a little mix of how today’s new rappers are. “More Life” also features Quavo, 2 Chainz, Travis Scott, Young Thug, Giggs and PARTYNEXTDOOR.
The album was produced by a diverse group of producers such as 40, Nineteen85, Frank Dukes, Kanye West, T-Minus and Murda Beatz. 40 was the main mastermind behind Drake’s new style for “More Life”. Drakes last album, “Views”, did not reach full expectations and was considered a rare fail for him. Fans still knew that those criticisms would not cause a problem for one of the most influential cultural shapers of our time. However, the release of “More Life” was considered a better catharsis because the skip button would be considered useless when playing this album.
The songs that will make this album memorable are the ones with features in them such as ‘Ice Melts’, ‘Portland’ and ‘Sacrifices’. Drake continues to show his talent of releasing songs of multiple genres and not make one of them bomb. When listening to “More Life”, you do not know if the next song is going to be Rap, R&B or Afrobeat. The mystery is enjoyable to experience.
The fan base says that this is definitely not the last that we have heard of Drake. “More Life” receives 9 stars out of 10 stars.
