Chicago rapper, Polo G, has been in the game for quite some time now. The 22-year-old first burst onto the scene in 2018 with his debut album ‘Die A Legend’. On that album, Polo G rapped about a range of issues that he had dealt with in his life. He proved to the rap game that he was definitely a force to be reckoned with and has since lived up to that, even on his most recent album, ‘THE GOAT’. While the album was a good listen, it was a step down from his Freshman project.
‘THE GOAT’ starts out strong with the first seven tracks which are “Don’t Believe the Hype”, “Heartless”, “Martin & Gina”, “Flex featuring Juice Wrld”, “Go Stupid,” “21”, and “33”. On the first four songs, Polo G gives his fans a melodic version of his rapping style before switching it up to a more hardcore flow with the track “Go Stupid” even teaming up with Memphis and North Carolina rapper NLE Choppa and Stunna 4 Vegas. On “21” and “33,” Polo gifts his fans fire verses and catchy hooks. However, by the time the listener gets to the middle of the album, it becomes a bore. The power that the first half of the album inherited disappears. The stylings of Polo G’s rap style becomes tiresome and you’re left thinking, “Please give me something else.” Fortunately for ‘THE GOAT’ it redeemed itself on the 16th track and ended strong with the Tupac sampled song “Wishing For a Hero”.
Though the album did not keep the momentum that it started out with, it still was a solid project.
