Alcorn State University (ASU) recently held its Fall 2022 commencement exercise. The graduation, which had 230 undergraduates and 73 graduates, occurred on Saturday, May 10th, on the Lorman campus. The commencement began at 9:00 am in the Spinks-Casem Stadium. Each graduate was issued five (5) tickets for the event and masks were strongly encouraged.
The keynote speaker for the graduation was Demetha Sanders, a Senior Vice President of Employee Life Cycle at Atlassian. Her responsibilities include maintaining the happiness of employees, ensuring low burn out rates and creating a work environment employees look forward to. Throughout her career Sanders has worked for DHL, Bacardi, and American Express. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Alcorn and her Master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University. While at the ceremony, Sanders addressed the graduates by saying, “As you leave here today, proceed as if success is inevitable but if you take nothing else from what I’ve been able to share with you, believe that you are ready, you are enough and you stand on the shoulders of giants. My fellow Alcornites the world is waiting for you, go leave your mark and go make us proud.”
