Alcorn Hosts Annual Career Exploration Week

Preparing students for the future was the objective of the Career Exploration Week. The Office of Career Services hosted the second annual Career Exploration Week on Monday, September 12, 2016 – Friday, September 16, 2016. This week not only prepared students for various career paths but it also prepared them for the interviews needed to pursue those careers. These series of events gave Alcorn students the needed items to compete in their various job fields.

“I am very impressed with the student turn out during this week’s various activities. The majority of the students who came out this week were enthused and well prepared for the events,” stated  Joey Mitchell, Director of Career Services.

On Monday, September 12th, a Mixer/Business and Industry Cluster Meeting was held on the Campus Plaza to allow students to mix and mingle with their fellow peers and other business professionals.  On Tuesday, September 13th, mock interviews were conducted in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility, in classrooms 1 and 2 to give students a real life experience at job interviewing. Students were able to receive a mock interview and were critiqued on their performance. On Wednesday, September 14th, a Graduate/Professional School Recruitment was held in the James L. Bolden Campus Union Ballroom. On Thursday, September 15th, students were given the opportunity to speak with various companies such as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), C-Spire, Mississippi Wild Life, Fisheries and Park Services, Walmart and other companies about jobs and internships that were available within their companies and lastly on Friday, September 16th, students in the Departments of Education, Nursing and Social Work were given the opportunity to participate in a Teacher Recruitment Fair.
