BRAVE FEST ‘2 LIT 2 MISS’

Alcorn State University (ASU) hosted its 2022 BRAVE FEST from Sunday, April 10th – Thursday, April 14th. This year’s theme was ‘2 Lit 2 Miss’.

The events began on Sunday, April 10th with “Chapel Service” from 10:00 am – 11:00 am in the Oakland Memorial Chapel. From 11:00 am – 1:00 pm “Brave Brunch” was hosted in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility followed by the “Brave Student Expo” from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Student Union Ballroom.

Monday, April 11th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm prompted the “Hypnosis Show” was which hosted by Toni G in the Student Union Ballroom. The show featured a hypnotist who brought 12 volunteers onto the stage to help him demonstrate the art of hypnosis. Elizjah Thrasher, a Senior General Study/Education major from Carthage, Mississippi stated, I must admit that I was somewhat skeptical about the show initially but I ended up thoroughly enjoying it. I think it was creative and entertaining.”

Tuesday, April 12th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm brought a “Meme Party” to the E.E. Simmons Gymnasium. The idea of the party was for students to dress up as their favorite meme or viral video and imitate them. Also, free hair products were given to students which was sponsored by Black College. Destiny Harrell, a Senior Business Admiration major from Clinton, Louisiana stated, “The event was nice. There were a few students and faculty members who came to show their best meme outfits which I thought was hilarious.”

On Wednesday, April 13th the events began with “Club Café” from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility. At 6:30 pm “Brave’n Out” and “Fashion Walk-Off” were hosted by Toni G, but the event was postponed to 7:20 pm due to inclement weather. The “Brave’n Out” event was changed to “Aux Wars” where Toni G had volunteers from the audience come to the stage and choose a song to go with a certain genre. The audience then would decide which student had the best song.

On Thursday, April 14th there was a “Law Enforcement Roundtable Discussion” at 10:00 am in the Provost’s Conference Room in Bowles Hall. Later at 7:00 pm, to end BRAVE FEST, there was the “BRAVE FEST Concert”. The concert, which was hosted by Isaiah Muhammad, opened at 7:00 pm at the Davey L. Whitney Gymnasium. The acts who performed were Big Scarr, SupahBadd, GS0 Phat and DJ Chose.
