On Thursday, September 3rd universities and colleges within Mississippi announced that they would be participating in the ‘Stronger Together’ Initiative. The Initiative is designed to unite student-athletes and communities in togetherness, equality and diversity.
The idea for the Initiative transpired in June of 2020 when administrators and coaches from across Mississippi gathered at the capital to have the then Mississippi state flag replaced. The Initiative exists to support student-athletes with social injustices that are currently engulfing the country. Another of its designations is for schools to promote racial equality and social justice through awareness, advocacy and education.
Beginning in the 2020-2021 academic school year a new logo will be placed on the student-athlete’s uniforms, warm-up gear, equipment and bags. The logo, along with the school’s official branding, will include the words ‘Stronger Together’ inside the outline of the state of Mississippi.
Schools that will participate in the Initiative are Alcorn State University, Jackson State University, Mississippi Valley State University, Tougaloo College, Rust College, Delta State, Millsaps College, Mississippi College, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and the Mississippi University for Women. Below are a list of the logos from each participating institution.
