An accomplished group of students from Alcorn State University (ASU) participated in the HBCU (Historically Black College and Universities) Legacy Bowl and Allstate Career Fair, an event which was organized by the College Football Hall of Fame.
The event was held February 20th at the La Nouvelle Orleans ballroom in New Orleans, Louisiana’s Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. This event brought together students from multiple HBCUs across the country, including Jackson State, Southern University, Howard University, and many others. The Legacy Bowl and Allstate Career Fair is designed to serve as a platform to connect HBCU Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors with meaningful employment, opportunities, professional development resources, and industry leaders.
Beyond networking and resume building the event also spotlighted student athletes participating in the HBCU Legacy Bowl. These individuals were given the opportunity to perform in front of NFL (National Football League) and CFL (Canadian Football League) scouts making the game into a professional showcase. Former ASU Running Back Reggie Davis reflected on the moment, stating, “competing in the Legacy Bowl represented more than just playing for your school or yourself, but playing for the teammates and coaches beside you.”
Students who attended the Career Fair received the opportunity to speak with top companies and corporations such as the New Orleans Saints, National Football League, Chicago Bulls, ESPN, Reddell, Morgan Stanley, Minnesota Vikings, Walmart, Delta Airlines, Zales, Epic, Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, Minneapolis Public Schools, Oregon State Police, Raising Cane’s, Hancock Whitney, etc.
Junior Mass Communications major Kenaysia Stanton stated, “the HBCU Legacy Bowl and Career Fair was an amazing and eye-opening experience. I’m so grateful to have been in a space filled with different agencies and companies that give HBCU students, such as myself, a chance to network and expand our horizons. I hope to be back next year.”
