On February 3, 2016 the Sophomore class hosted the Brave and Beautiful Pageant in the Campus Union Ballroom at 7:00 pm. This was the 2nd annual Brave and Beautiful Pageant.
The pageant was arranged by 2014-2015 Miss Junior, Kyara Gamble. She created the pageant because she believes every woman or girl is a queen and what better way to let them shine than creating a pageant. This year’s Sophomore class decided to keep the tradition going during their Sophomore-Junior week. The week was filled with activities such as on Monday, February 1st there was an ‘Ice Cream Social’ held in the Honors Cafeteria from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, then on Tuesday, February 2nd there was a ‘Paint With a Date’ event held in the Complex C Multipurpose Room from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, then on Thursday, February 4th there was a ‘Dodge Ball Game’ in the E.E. Simmons Gymnasium and to end the week on Friday, February 5th the two classes united to do community service.
The Master and Mistress of Ceremony for the pageant were Sophomore Class President, Patrick Herbert Jr. and Miss Sophomore, Kristina Brown. There were several categories during the pageant such as Fine China, A Day on the Yard, A Night on the Town, a Question and Answer segment, Talent, and Formal Wear. Being that the Brave and Beautiful Pageant is a unisex pageant there were four female and three male contestants all of which were very competitive.
The judges for the pageant were Miss Alcorn Amber King, Student Government Association President Adrian McLain, and 1st Vice President Johnny Jenkins. After careful consideration and tabulating all of the scores, Sophomore Aysha Evans was crowned Miss Brave and Beautiful and Freshman Ivan Gray was named Mr. Brave.
