Keturah Moody is a proud a native of St. Paul, Minnesota who now resides in Southaven, Mississippi. She is a Social Media Manager and Strategist with a demonstrated history of working in the fashion and beauty industries. Shortly after graduating in 2020 with a Bachelors degree in Mass Communications from Alcorn State University, she created her own business Mood in the Media, to help businesses that don’t have the time or resources to devote to managing their own social media channels. Why did you choose Alcorn?
When it came time to choose a college, I knew that I wanted to attend an Historically Black College and University because some of my other classmates had gotten me interested in them. I did my research with the factors of affordability and fee waivers being the primary points of me choosing an institution. Alcorn State University seemed to be the most intriguing choice and a welcomed change in environment for me.
What organizations were you a part of?
During my 4 years at Alcorn, I was extremely involved on campus. I was a part of the Mass Communications Club and the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). I also was the Social Media Manager for The T.R.E.N.D. Modeling Squad, Ms. Alpha Chi Alpha for The Lamda Pi Eta Honor Society and The Fashion Editor for The Campus Chronicle (Alcorn’s online newspaper).
How has Alcorn helped prepare you for your career?
Being a part of so many creative outlets during my time on campus and of course within the Mass Communications Department really helped me decide the path I wanted to follow for my career. The amazing professors and my peers helped me navigate questions I had about a future and how I could combine all of my passions into a job that I would not only thrive at but love as well.
What is something you enjoyed most about Alcorn?
I enjoyed having a strong sense of community. I always tell people there is nothing like attending an HBCU. It truly is an environment unlike any other and there is just something about the experience that only others who have attended an HBCU can understand.
Do you have any advice for current or future students on ‘The Yard’?
Be as active on campus as possible. You never know what joining various clubs and attending different activities can do for you as far as networking and cultivating relationships. My college experience would not have been the same if I didn’t surround myself with the people and mentors that I found.
