Over the Summer an interest meeting was held for all of those interested in becoming a Freshman representative via Microsoft Teams on July 20th and 21st. Campaigning officially began on Thursday, August 18th at 12:00 am and ended Sunday, August 21st at 2:00 pm. As a Welcome Week event on Saturday, August 20, the Mr. and Miss Freshman Pageant was held in the Student Union Ballroom from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. On Sunday, August 21st, after the voting process took place, Alcorn’s Student Government Association (SGA) announced the 2022-2023 Freshman representative at 4:00 pm. The 2022-2023 Mr. Freshman was Avantavis Cater and Miss Freshman was Jhada Wade.

Mr. Freshman, Avantavis Carter, is a Secondary Education/History major from Hazlehurst, Mississippi who has a dream of expanding his platform in ways to continue the tradition and legacy of Alcorn. He describes himself as a person who never gives up and has always been a leader, whether it was his involvement in school or the impact he has made in his community. “Things to know about me is that this is not my first rodeo, I have always been in leadership,” stated Carter. In high school, he served on Hazlehurst High School’s SGA since his Sophomore year. Also in his high school career, he took part in other organizations such as Mississippi State’s STEM camps and JROTC.

O -Open a line of communication to all
I – Inform all students about the resources on campus and internship opportunities
