Singer and actress Solange Piaget Knowles was born on June 24, 1986 in Houston, Texas. She is widely known as the younger sister of superstar singer Beyoncé Knowles.
While she lived her formative years in her superstar sister’s shadow, she emerged on the music scene at the age of 16 appearing on Lil’ Romeo’s ‘Game Time’ and Kelly Rowland’s ‘Simply Deep’ upon which she wrote the album’s title track. With experience under her belt she released her first album, “Solo Star” in 2002 which underperformed by selling only 112,000 copies and dropped off of the charts five weeks after its debut.
Solange has written songs for Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, the third member of Destiny’s Child. She is responsible for writing Beyoncé’s hit songs ‘Get me Bodied’ and ‘Upgrade U’. Besides singing and writing music, she is an actress as well. She has appeared in movies such as Johnson Family Vacation and Bring It On: All or Nothing.
In 2007, she released her second studio album, “Sol-Angel St. Dream”, which did not garner much success. In 2013, she launched her record label Saint Records. Three years later in 2016 she released her third studio album, “A Seat at the Table”, which received universal acclaim and garnered many accolades from music critics.
Solange is set to perform “A Seat at the Table” on Saturday Night Live on November 15, 2016 with host Benedict Cumberbatch.
