ARTIST: Taylor Bennett
ALBUM: Broad Shoulders
RELEASE DATE: December 14, 2015
Taylor Bennett was born on January 19, 1996 in Chicago, Illinois to Lisa and Ken Williams-Bennett. Being the younger brother of Chancelor Bennett, also known as Chance The Rapper, would make one think that this has given the young artist a platform to stand on his own two feet. However, before Chance began promoting his younger brother, Taylor had to build his own fan base. With a unique sound to Chance, Taylor officially started his rap career in 2013.
Though his career didn’t begin until a few years ago, Taylor has been perfecting his craft since the age of ten. Some of the artists that have stimulated Taylor’s love for music include Twista, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, and Kanye West. After being inspired by Twista’s ‘Hope’ in 2005, the young artist was eager to start performing and producing music.
Categorizing Taylor’s genre of music is difficult. When asked in an interview with DNA Info about his genre, Taylor responded, “To me it’s always about growing and your energy, and it’s just really hard to put a label on that. I do a lot of different genres, but to me it’s just music and I love doing it.”
Aside from making music Bennett is deeply devoted to serving and improving his community. He has been known to donate proceeds of sold out shows towards Kids Off The Block, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to ending violence and crime in Chicago. He has also been a key contributor to another non profit organization entitled The Remember Project with Chance which helps to inspire young Chicago youth.
Bennett’s debut album, “Broad Shoulders”, was released on December 14, 2015. It can be download on Apple Music, Google Play, and SoundCloud.
