Sean Anderson, better known by his stage name, Big Sean, is a Detroit rapper and songwriter. Born in Santa Monica, California, Big Sean began rapping during his last few years of high school. During this time, he would showcase his rhyming skills during a weekly rap battle contest hosted by Detroit Hip Hop station WHTD. In 2005, he met Chicago producer and rapper, Kanye West and performed a 16 bar freestyle. Two years later in 2007, he signed to West’s label, GOOD Music.
In 2007, the Detroit native released his first official mixtape ‘Finally Famous: The Mixtape’. The mixtape was composed of 23 tracks. Amongst these songs included, “Get’cha Some”, which achieved moderate success. In 2009, he released a second mixtape called ‘UKNOWBIGSEAN’, which included 30 tracks. In 2010, the 32-year-old released a third mixtape hosted by Don Cannon called ‘Finally Famous Vol. 3: BIG’, which featured some major artists such as Bun B, Tyga and Drake, to name a few.
After a string of mixtape releases, Big Sean finally dropped his debut album, ‘Finally Famous’. The album was a mainstream hit and peaked at number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. ‘Finally Famous’ also produced three singles, “My Last” featuring Chris Brown, “Marvin & Chardonnay” ft Kanye West, and “Dance (A–)”.
Over his career, Big Sean has released six successful studio albums including three platinum albums (‘Finally Famous’, ‘Dark Sky Paradise’ and ‘I Decided’), and one gold album (‘Hall of Fame’).
