ASU H.E.R.O.S. and the Department of Student Health and Well-Being Host Breast Cancer Awareness Program

Alcorn State University (ASU) held its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Program on Thursday, October 2nd, bringing the campus community together in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year’s event featured an empowering message from First Lady Dr. Crystal S. Cook, Medical Director of Jefferson Comprehensive Health Center, Inc., and wife of Alcorn President, Dr. Tracy M. Cook.

Dr. Cook, a Breast Cancer Survivor, shared her inspiring journey of perseverance, faith, and resilience with students, faculty, and staff gathered for the occasion. She encouraged attendees to prioritize early detection, regular screenings, and self-care.

“Your health is your power,” Dr. Cook emphasized during her address. “Early detection saved my life, and it can save yours to.”

In addition to Dr. Cook’s powerful message, the event also honored a plethora of Breast Cancer survivors in attendance, each representing strength, hope, and victory over adversity. Their presence added a deeply emotional and uplifting atmosphere to the program.

Attendees wore shades of pink in solidarity and participated in discussions on health awareness, empowerment, and community support. University officials praised the event for promoting health education and emotional healing within the Alcorn family.

“It’s always meaningful to see our students and faculty come together for causes that truly matter,” said Larry Sanders, Assistant Professor of Mass Communications at ASU.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Program reflected Alcorn’s ongoing commitment to health advocacy, community engagement, and spreading hope to those affected by Cancer.
