On Saturday, November 13th, the Alcorn State University (ASU) Braves hosted its annual High School Day on the Lorman campus from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. Alcorn welcomed high school and transfer students from all over the country and abroad to see what the Braves had to offer them in the near future.
The day of events opened at the Davey L. Whitney HPER Complex with registration. Prospective students were then greeted with a warm welcome as they entered and received their High School Day treats which included lunch, a game day ticket, and a swag bag. After registering, the attendees entered the gymnasium to learn in-depth information about the academic programs, financial aid, honors programs, and study abroad opportunities at various tables. In addition, they were able to learn about student organizations and Greek life on campus. As entertainment, the students participated in a dance battle with students from other high schools and then watched the T.R.E.N.D. Modeling Squad strut the gym floor in Alcorn apparel showcasing their school spirit.
Afterwards, the students got the opportunity to participate in a campus tour which viewed different buildings and dormitories. During the tour, the students were able to connect with different Alcornites to learn more about their personal experiences while attending the University.
“It was a great feeling meeting some of the students and being able to share my experience as a transfer student at Alcorn with them. I strongly encouraged the ones that I came in contact with to attend ASU for the family oriented feeling and for the great academic opportunities that the University has to offer,” stated Gerrodrick Harris, a Senior Health and Physical Education major.
Before the football game, several groups of students stopped by the Fine Arts Building to hear a few selections from the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Marching Band and participate in auditions for future membership. At 2:00 pm, the Braves kicked off the final event of High School Day which was the football game against Prairie View A&M University upon which ASU won 31-29.
