ASU presents 2023-24 Coronation “Royalty Under the Stars”

The Coronation of Mister and Miss Alcorn State University (ASU) took place on Thursday, October 5th at 7:00 pm in the Davey L. Whiteney Complex.

Jillian Mills is an English and Elementary Education major from Greenville, Mississippi, and was crowned the 97th Miss Alcorn State University. Arrington Robinson is a Biology Pre-Medicine major from Canton, Mississippi, and was crowned the 3rd Mister Alcorn State University. The night’s theme was titled “Royalty Under the Stars.”

The event began with the Posting of Colors by the Alcorn Brave Battalion. Next, the National Anthem was performed. A Welcome and Occasion was given by Kelunda Thomas, the Coordinator of Student Engagement. The Invocation was then given by Jordan Buck, the 66th Student Government Association (SGA) President.

Former Miss ASU Queens and SGA Presidents were first recognized then the Process of Regality were acknowledged. Misses and Misters of other clubs and organizations falling in the academic, special fields of interest and Pan-Hellenic categories were introduced. The Royal Court was announced next. Antoine Johnson, Mister Freshman, is a Computer Network and Information Systems major. He escorted Miss Freshman Erin Nichols, a Biology Pre-Professional major. Mister Sophomore, Khari Allen, is an Agriculture Plant and Soil Science major. He escorted Miss Sophomore Aniya Mitchell, a Psychology major. Mister Junior is Derrick Shelvy, an Agricultural Economics major. He escorted Miss Junior, Taylor Cain, an Agriculture major. Mister Senior is Kenneth Frazier, who escorted Miss Senior Kristin Washington, a Social Work major.

The crowning ceremony then took place of the 3rd Mister Alcorn and 97th Miss Alcorn. Interim President Dr. Tracy M. Cook did the crowing as well as the robing and presentation of roses. His and Her Majesty then presented acceptance speeches, expressing their deep gratitude to the student body. Next, they did a royal dance featuring The Resilient Royals. Afterwards, they performed traditional dances. Robinson danced with his mother Mrs. Nia Robinson and Mills danced with her mother Mrs. Terri Mills. Afterwards, a special presentation was presented to the King and Queen. The closing remarks were done by Dr. Cook, followed by the alma mater, ending the night.
