Autumn Thompson: Creative Genius

Autumn Thompson is a 22-year-old Senior English Literature major at Alcorn State University (ASU).

Growing up in Annapolis, Maryland, she was always immersed in the arts. As a prestigious ballet dancer since the age of 12, Thompson, as a teenager, was educated at the North Carolina School of the Arts where she trained for 8 hours daily to become a professional ballet dancer. She has traveled to perform at recitals across the country and internationally. Although she loved dance, upon her high school graduation she decided to explore life beyond what she had known. She put down the pointe shoes and pivoted into the world of modeling and screenwriting.

Spending time with her grandparents in the Summer brought her to Colombus, Mississippi. A large portion of Thompson’s family graduated from Alcorn which piqued her interest about the institution. Once at Alcorn, she began looking for a space to express herself, so she turned to creative writing and drawing. Although she had taken some classes in Mass Communications, she wanted to be a stronger writer by studying the foundations of compositions and decided to major in English Literature. Thompson explains, “Although I liked the elements of Mass Communications, I would like to get more into film. I want to learn how to write movie scripts in the future.”

She is currently working on a graphic novel and scripting a mini-series based around African Americans in the arts. “I’d like to be an established artist in various mediums,” Thompson states. In her free time, she dances, knits, watches movies, dwells in photography, draws and paints portraits. Upon graduation, she plans to move to New York to write and produce films as well as land modeling opportunities.
