Home THE POET’S CORNER Back and Forth

Back and Forth

He said, babygirl,
you got a way with words.
I said, no,
I just know how to make them work.

You can’t have the subject without the verb,
Just like you can’t have the love without the hurt.

I know it’s worse.
You’ve heard it all before,
you give him love and more
and you put him first.

The love’s not reciprocated
and the two do not converse.
The energy is unmatched
as if it’s all rehearsed.

It’s like counting from one to four
but it’s like a war.
There’s an inbetween
but stating less is more.
