‘The Reservation’ Welcomes BraveFest 2023

Alcorn State University’s (ASU) Student Government Association (SGA) presented BraveFest Week 2023 between Monday, April 3rd through Wednesday, April 5th. The shorten week was due to the Easter holiday break which happened on Friday, April 6th.

BravesFest Week is designed to engage the student body with events and activities that unify. The first event occurred on Monday, April 3rd which was the Brave Choice Awards which was held in the Student Union Ballroom at 6:00 pm. The Brave Choice Awards are designed to honor certain students, faculty and staff members in unique categories for their contributions to Alcorn.

On Tuesday, April 4th, The Brave Games were held on the Campus Green from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The Games, which were designed to bring out the student’s competitive nature, had them participate in a plethora of contests to see who was the best. Later that night, The Breakfast Club was presented in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Hall from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm. It was a “Midnight Breakfast” event full of dancing and fun.

Wednesday, April 5th, brought Chicken Wednesday, also at the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Hall from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Thursday, April 5th, brought the BraveFest Concert to the Davey L. Whitney Complex (New Gym) at 6:00 pm. Rapper, Actress and Comedian, LightSkinKeisha opened the show followed by fellow rappers Nardo Wick and Rich Homie Quan.

“This was my first BraveFest Concert and I’m glad I came,” says Teryn Quarles, a Sophomore student at ASU. “It was very entertaining. I was excited to see who was performing and they did not disappoint.”

The concert was free of charge and available to students, faculty and staff. The show was hosted by entertainer and emcee Bobby B Ent.

“My favorite part of the show was when Rich Homie Quan arrived and performed his classic songs. This was the highlight of the entire week,” stated ASU Freshman Jah’Zaria Banks.
