On Monday, March 21st at Jackson State University’s (JSU) practice field, some members of the Alcorn State University Football team participated in the annual ‘Pro Day’ for college athletes looking to get recognized in the 2022 National Football League (NFL) draft.
The Braves participating were Defensive Backs Zack Wilson, Juwan Taylor and Taurence Wilson, Wide Receiver LeCharles Pringle, Running Back Stadford Anderson and Quarterback Felix Harper. Other college and universities participating in the event were Mississippi Valley State University, Delta State, Belhaven, Millsaps, and Mississippi College.
Of the 32 NFL teams 10 were not in attendance which were the Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings and the Philadelphia Eagles. This seemed to draw the anger of JSU’s Head Football Coach Deion Sanders with him stating, “You could have sent somebody. You could have shown up just a little bit. But I guarantee you you’re going to go to Mississippi State and Ole Miss. You say they have more talent and I understand. Guess what? We’re coming. And when we arrive, you better be there because our kids deserve it. You could have sent a scout. You could have sent somebody. That’s all I’m saying.”
The 2022 NFL Draft will begin Thursday, April 28th and end on Saturday, April 30th. Pringle and Anderson are Braves slated to be drafted in the latter rounds.
