Alcorn State couldn’t recover from a slow start Monday night, February 2nd, falling 74–50 to Grambling State at the Davey L. Whitney Health and Physical Education Complex.
The Braves struggled offensively in the first half as Grambling built a 39–25 lead at the break. Alcorn shot just 32 percent from the field in the opening half, while the Tigers took advantage of open looks and knocked down seven three-pointers before halftime.
Jameel Morris led Alcorn with 15 points and three steals. Omari Hamilton added 10 points off the bench, and Tycen McDaniels finished with eight points and six rebounds. The Braves had difficulty finding their shot from the perimeter, going scoreless from three-point range in the second half.
Grambling continued to pull away after halftime, stretching its lead to as many as 26 points. The Tigers controlled the paint and pushed the tempo, scoring on fast breaks and second-chance opportunities.
Antonio Munoz posted a double-double for Grambling with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Roderick Coffee III led all scorers with 17 points, while Jamil Muttilib and Derrius Ward added 15 and 14 points.
Alcorn State drops to 4–17 overall and 3–6 in SWAC play. The Braves will look to respond as Conference action continues when they play Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, February 7th at 5:30 pm at H.O. Clemmons Arena in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
