Braves Get Second Win of the Season

The Alcorn State University (ASU) Braves (1-3, 2-6) got their second win of the season with a dominate victory over the Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) Delta Devils (0-3, 1-6) on Saturday, October 25th at Spinks-Casem Stadium at 2:00 pm.

Alcorn jumped on the scoreboard first at the 11:43 mark in the first quarter when they got a safety making the score 2-0, Braves. ASU continued to score at the 7:46 mark when Wide Receiver Jarvis Rush caught a 10-yard pass from Quarterback Jaylon Tolbert and with Kicker Lorenzo Garcia’s extra point the score was 9-0, Braves.

The Braves scored 13 points in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 22-0 lead over Valley.

Entering the third quarter the Braves scored again at the 13:30 mark when Wide Receiver Tyran Warren caught a 74-yard pass from Tolbert and with a successful Garcia extra point the score was 29-0, Braves. Alcorn scored again at the 7:23 mark when Garcia booted a 17-yard field goal to make the score 32-0, Braves. The Delta Devils finally got on the score board at the 5:43 mark when Wide Receiver Cameron Nelson caught a 27-yard passs from Quarterback Josh Brown and with Kicker Marko Jovisic’s extra point the score was now 32-7, Alcorn.

MVSU scored the only points in the fourth quarter at the 11:27 mark when Jovisic kicked a 20-yard field goal making the final score 32-10, Braves.

Offensively, Tolbert had 23 completions for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns, Running Back Jacorian Sewell lead all rushers with 53 yards while averaging 4.1 yards per carry, and Wide Receiver Tyran Warren had 1 reception for 74 yards. Defensively, Cedric Roberts lead all tackles with 12.

The Braves’ next contest will be Saturday, November 1st at 2:00 pm at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas against the Texas Southern University Tigers (3-1, 4-3). You can listen to the game on WPRL 91.7 FM or wprl.org.
