On Tuesday, September 15th in Spinks-Casem Stadium, the Alcorn State University (ASU) Braves’ Football team received their 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship Rings. The Braves had a 9-4 overall 2019 record, they were 6-1 in the SWAC, and went 7-0 at Spinks-Casem Stadium. To cap off the season the Braves defeated the Southern University Jaguars 39-24 in the 2019 SWAC Championship game. This was the 13th SWAC title in Alcorn’s history and the 4th in 6 years.

The Braves were led by Redshirt Junior Quarterback Felix Harper, the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year, Senior Linebacker Solomon Muhammad, Redshirt Junior Wide Receiver LeCharles Pringle and Junior Defensive Back Qwynnterrio Cole.  Alcorn’s offense averaged 33.6 points per game while the defensive unit only allowed 21.1 points per game and was the leader of all of Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) institutions in interceptions and turnovers.

Head Football Coach Fred McNair stated, “I want to thank these young men in front of me for everything they have done throughout their career here at Alcorn and those that are not attending today I do want to recognize them as well. It was a great 2019 season.  You guys worked hard, played hard, and this is something that you get paid for in the end by winning back to back SWAC Championships.”

The quest for another SWAC Championship begins on Saturday, February 21, 2021 against the Alabama A&M University Bulldogs at Louis Crews Stadium in Huntsville, Alabama. A time has yet to be determined.
