The campus of Alcorn State University (ASU) has been undergoing several construction projects. Landmarks such as the Walter Washington Administration Building, Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Hall, and the packaging facility are just a few sights of where construction is currently underway. Project Manager for Facilities Management, Windell Harried provided more information about these campus projects.
Harried stated that the Walter Washington Building’s construction is an MDOT (Mississippi Department of Transportation) funded project that consists of a plaza renovation to remove old planters to establish a new footprint. “This project has been in the works for a few years now and it is finally coming to fruition,” stated Harried. He also mentioned that the campus dining facility is getting a new dish washing station which has also been an essential need for this campus that is being completed.
In addition to other construction projects on campus, concrete renovations are being established. This particular ADA project is being funded through the help of the Bureau of Building based in Jackson, Mississippi. The ADA (American with Disability Act of 1990) project is designed to prohibit discrimination based on disability in a broad range of areas, including employment, places of public accommodation, and government services. “It was deemed that a few areas on campus were out of compliance with the ADA which is why we are making accommodations,” stated Harried.
Currently there is no end date as to when the construction projects will be completed.
