Alcorn Hosts Fall 2022 Career, Employment and Pre-Professional Fair

On September 29th Alcorn State University (ASU) hosted its annual Fall 2022 Career, Employment and Pre-Professional Fair. Students, faculty, and staff were able to attend to find career opportunities and internships. The Fair was held at the Davey L. Whitney Complex (Old Gym) from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.

Some potential employers that were at the event were Air Force Civilian Service, Army Healthcare, Arkansas Colleges of Health Education, Baldwin County Board of Education, Birmingham City Schools, Cargill, Central Service Association, Credit Suisse, Entergy, Goldman Sachs and many more. The different companies gave students an opportunity to get an internship or job. The employers had their own tables set up so students would be able to come and learn more about each company and their available positions.

One such company that attended the Fair was Goldman Sachs. This is a global financial service firm that helps major companies such as Google with transactions. The company has 18 divisions which include, but aren’t limited to, Engineering, Human Capital Management, Operations and Finance, etc. Their major locations are New York, New York, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Dallas, Texas.

Najah McEwen, Diversity Recruiting Coordinator for Goldman Sachs, stated, “We target Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU) and other universities to help unseen talent get into the workforce. My goal is to expose minorities to different opportunities.” Another company that attended the Fair was Youth Villages which is a non-profit organization in social services. The company helps kids who have been separated from their families and helps them to build themselves back up so that they may be returned back to their families or be adopted.

Although some tables were specific to certain majors, many students were able to find opportunities at other tables. The Fair was great for students to get their foot in the door to many companies and make a name for themselves. Keondra Lewis, a Senior Biology major, stated, “Today’s Fair was great. I was able to learn about more job opportunities in my major that I didn’t know existed. I love how I have the opportunity to walk across the stage knowing I have a job waiting for me when I graduate.”
