THE CAMPUS CHRONICLE

Dear Ebi: The Advice Column (October 15, 2018)

Dear Ebi,

I’m a college student away from home and my mom is always on my back about dumb stuff (in my opinion). She’s always nagging me about something and most of the stuff she brings up is out of my control. Most of the time, I don’t even want to be around her. But here’s the messed up part…she has stage 4 cancer and things just aren’t looking too good right now. Of course we have faith that everything will be okay but I don’t know. How do I balance being annoyed by the things she says, but also realize how valuable my time is with her right now?

Syd

Hey Syd,

We are going to clash with people in our lives, especially those who are close to us. Your mom is looking out for you and you are probably one or the only source she feels like she can talk to. One thing you have to keep in mind is to not be soft or sensitive towards your mom just because she’s sick. You have to be mindful at all times, sick or not, of how you react to her words. It’s good that you and your family are staying steadfast in your faith and that’s the best thing to do for her. Spend as much time with her as you can because we don’t know when anyone’s last breath could occur and just realize how much she means to you, all drama aside.
