Dr. Wandra Arrington is the current Assistant Director of the Honors and Pre Professional Program at Alcorn State University. She was born in Cleveland, Mississippi and raised in Itta Bena, Mississippi.
With a twin sister, Dr. Shundra Arrington Warren, and two more sisters, Arrington states, “sharing is caring and with sisters I’ve learned to put that in place with others.” Sharing is one of her greatest attributes. She graduated from Leflore County High School and received a band scholarship to Alcorn State University where she played the clarinet and her twin sister played the flute. With her Alcorn alum parents, who both have doctorate degrees and were teachers at Mississippi Valley State University, she was always taught to value education. “I knew that I was going to college and I always encouraged others to go to college,” she said. Arrington graduated from Alcorn State with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration, and she later received a Masters in Agriculture Economics and a Doctorate in Agriculture and Extension Education from Mississippi State University.
Always wanting to be of help to others, Arrington started an extension program which is an outreach of Alcorn which provides education awareness, agriculture and natural resources ,4H, youth development and more. She stated, “When someone comes up to me and says thank you Dr. Arrington, you’ve made a difference, I am very motivated.” One of her many inspirational goals is to always have an impact on someone’s life. She always encourages students to be a part of an organization because she believes that becoming a part of any organization can help someone.
Arrington is a dedicated member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. and also a charter member of Tau Beta Sigma. She is also the Director of the Honors Student Organization here at Alcorn. She stated, “I feel comfortable in my job now because I love helping people.” Arrington is a strong woman and in everything she does she looks for the betterment of others before she thinks about herself.
