From leading the cheer squad to commanding the color guard, the journey of excellence began for one student at Independence High School in Coldwater, Mississippi. Elisha Bolton, a shining example of academic prowess and leadership, has seamlessly transitioned from high school to college, making her mark at Alcorn State University (ASU).
Bolton graduated as Valedictorian, an award that she earned not only for her outstanding academic performance but also because of her numerous extracurricular activities in which she participated. As a member of the student council, Senior Beta Club, and serving as co-captain in both cheerleading and the color guard, she embodied the spirit of leadership and dedication. Despite her numerous achievements, it wasn’t just the laurels that influenced her decision to choose Alcorn; it was the welcoming atmosphere and sense of community that drew her in.
Currently, Bolton is working towards her Psychology degree at Alcorn with a tentative graduation date of May 2025. Afterwards she plans on attaining a Masters’ degree where she is setting the stage for a career in helping others, as she hopes to become a Clinical Mental Health Therapist. Her path to success is obvious – to continue with her excellent academic performance and find internships and networking opportunities that will broaden her horizon of experience while remaining humble in the process.
In her college career thus far, she has continued to perform well, being honored as a member of the President’s and Dean’s List. Her participation in ASU H.E.R.O.S., Brave Solutions Student Coalition, Psychology Society and most recently becoming a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, has enabled her to obtain priceless experiences and to make contacts that will last a lifetime.
“I hope to continue having the heart, diligence, and dedication from my college experience as I go into my career. I’ve been going hard for three years at Alcorn, so I’m bound to go even harder when I get out there in the real world,” states Bolton. Her advice to those following a similar path is simple yet profound – set goals, take deliberate actions, and remain steadfast in the face of challenges.
