Gill Becomes Miss Mass Communications 2020-2021

On Monday, October 5th, Jackson, Mississippi native, Morgan Gill became Miss Mass Communications 2020-2021. The “Let ‘Em Know” talk show host is prepared to be a leader and defining voice for the Department of Mass Communications at Alcorn State University (ASU).

Being a two year veteran of Alcorn State University’s Cheerleading Squad, Gill has the passion and ability to bring new ideas to the table that will benefit future and present students. Her desire to run for Miss Mass Communications stems from wanting to be a portal of knowledge and communication for not only her Department but for the University as well. She is devoted to making student satisfaction easier by bridging the gap between the faculty and students, having more professional workshops and visiting conferences which are Communications themed. Gill, a Junior, is a reporter for ASU-TV 13, which is Alcorn’s TV station, and a talk show host for her segment, “Let ‘Em Know” which is shown bi-monthly on The Campus Chronicle, which is Alcorn’s online newspaper.

She graduated in 2018 with honors from Terry High School (THS) in Terry, Mississippi where she served three years as a cheerleader and a member of the Beta Club. “Academics are an important part of my life and I take it very seriously,” said Gill. After graduating from THS, she attended Jackson State University but transferred to ASU in 2019. Since transferring, Gill has diligently shown her love and support while representing her Historically Black College and University.

She is the daughter of Deborah Crenshaw and Kim Gill who instilled in her early on in life that she could be whatever she wanted to be as long as she properly prepared herself. Discussing her career plans, Gill emphasized that she is a very garrulous individual, therefore she knew that Mass Communications would be the best fit for her. “I want to be a news anchor one day and following that, I would love to have my own television show,” she expressed.

Her first scheduled event will be on Wednesday, October 28th at 12:00 pm in the I.T. Building in Room 214 with a Meet and Greet designed so that the new students within the Mass Communications Department can converse with the faculty and get a better understanding of the field that they have chosen to be in.
