GQ Modeling Squad Hosts “The GQunk Yard”

The Alcorn State University Gentlemen and Queen’s (GQ) Modeling Squad hosted its annual Spring Fashion Show on April 13, 2016 which was held in the James L. Bolden Campus Union Ballroom at 6 pm. The name of the event was entitled “GQunk Yard”which was designed to bring comradery between the students of the University.

The show was themed after Fat Albert and the Junk Yard Kids. Originally scheduled for the tennis courts at the front of campus, the show was decorated with various trash and junk items. Models for the “GQunk Yard” wore make up and clothing significant to the theme.

Audience members were awed at the multiple scenes presented. The show featured six scenes with one being a live performance from former Alcornite Josh Waters. He performed one of his songs, “I Need You.” The show also featured an intermission performance from the University’s other modeling squad, The Trend.

The show began with an animated performance of the remixed Fat Albert theme song from the self titled 2006 movie. The featured models playfully interacted with the crowd and one another. The show concluded with a final walk highlighting the members of the organization’s executive board.

Trevor Williams, Senior and President of GQ, expressed, “We always have our annual Spring Show during this time, but I wanted this event to be something everyone would remember. Although the weather stopped the show from being at the tennis courts, it didn’t stop the show from going on.”
