THE CAMPUS CHRONICLE

It’s Late On a Friday

It’s late on a Friday
sitting in these stands

We’re up by 7
the crowd cheers
but all I can hear is the trumpets
playing in the band
as the dancers wave their hands

My friends start singing
tonight’s the night by John Legend
but it holds a different meaning for me

Maybe tonight really is the night
in the backseat
hoping nobody can see

It’s late on a Friday
I’ve already wrote the ones I love

See you later on the highway
the rain is supposed to be pure
but it tastes like salt
sitting here wondering if I’m sure
palm open, pondering
thoughts flowing, tapping
tears falling, hoping
maybe they’ll come
maybe not
1 2 3 4 5…

Eventually I get to 14
1 2 3 4 5…
eventually I get to 10
palm open, thoughts flowing, tears falling
the tops connect

It’s late on a Friday
I wasn’t sure
and they wouldn’t have come
palm closed, thoughts pause, tears dry
he heard my cry
choose to see another day
another 24
