The Iota Beta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity, Inc., National Honorary Band Fraternity located at Alcorn State University (ASU) hosted an open band hall cleaning day Friday, February 3rd from 12:20 pm – 2:19 pm with assistance from the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. for students wanting community service hours. Afterwards a “Pie Psi” fundraiser event was held where students were able to pie their favorite Psi member at the band hall from 2:19 pm – 5:19 pm. The day ended with a function on the main campus blacktop commencing at 9:19 pm hosted by the brothers of Kappa Kappa Psi.
The members of Kappa Kappa Psi strive daily to fulfill their vision which is “empowering and influencing the vibrant and diverse college band movement through purposeful programming, unified messaging, and excellence in service and operations.” To celebrate the charter day on February 4th, the Chapter held a week’s worth of fundraising, entertainment, and community service called the “Kappa Kappa Psi World Tour”, including a hot chocolate bar, bake sale, a sip and paint event, and more.
“The various events were created to shine light on the hard work of students participating in the band program,” says Rashad Ray, President of the Iota Beta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity, Inc. “We realized that we were inspiring people to give back, so we wanted to create a platform for them to do so and make it entertaining in the process.” Cortez Toy, a dedicated member of Kappa Kappa Psi stated, “We are responsible for fulfilling the vision of the Iota Beta Chapter by giving due diligence to our program as well as collaborating with other organizations. We appreciate the assistance from the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta for helping clean what we call home.”
Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity, Inc., National Honorary Band Fraternity was founded on November 27th, 1919. The Iota Beta chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity, Inc. was installed on ASU’s campus on February 4th, 1989. Fulfilling their purpose to aid and assist in the betterment and recognition of the college band, they strive to provide a pleasant and helpful social experience for all students.
