The Alcorn State Lady Braves (4-23, 3-12) were ready to put on a show for their home crowd as they suited up to compete against the Lady Bulldogs from Alabama A&M (13-12, 8-6) in their last home game of the 2018-2019 season. The Lady Braves nor the Lady Braves’ fan base were prepared for the outcome of this battle on Monday, February 25th at the Davey L. Whitney Complex at 5:30 pm in Lorman, Mississippi.

The Lady Braves didn’t hold back as they started off with great intensity. Alcorn State looked unstoppable as they ended the first quarter with an 18-10 lead over the Lady Bulldogs. Even though Alabama A&M looked flat at times, the Lady Bulldogs still managed to outscore Alcorn 15-8 in the second quarter. Pushing the ball on offense after the half and not resting on defense, Alcorn State kept the lead, but was outscored in the 3rd quarter again 13-11. As the Bulldogs awakened, the Lady Braves knew it was now or never. With both teams giving all that they had, each one annexed 13 points a piece in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, this game came down to the last possession for the Lady Bulldogs who got a tip in from Forward Elexis Evans with 6 seconds remaining which sealed Alcorn’s fate as the Lady Braves suffered a tough 51-50 loss.

The Lady Braves were offensively led by Senior Guard, De’Asia Brown, who scored 16 points and following her was Junior Forward, Toddrianna Isler, with 9 points. The Alabama A&M Bulldogs were led by Guard, Nigeria Jones as she rounded up 24 points and 4 steals.

Alcorn State will be on the road next, as they travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, March 2nd to play against the Southern University Jaguars at 3:00 pm at the F. G. Clark Activity Center.
