On Thursday, March 28th, from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm Alcorn State University’s (ASU) Mass Communications Department held its annual Mississippi Association of Broadcasters (MAB)/Media Day. This event took place in the Gold Room on the second floor of the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility.
The event was created to educate students within the Mass Communications Department about the numerous nuances in the field of Communications from professionals throughout Mississippi.
MAB/Media Day began with refreshments for the members of the audience. Sydney Johnson and Marissa Smith, two students in the Mass Communications Department, introduced Lance Fuller, a Disc Jockey for Hallelujah 95.5 FM in Jackson, Mississippi which is a member of the iHeartRadio family, as the speaker for the occasion.
Fuller was born in California and eventually moved to Mississippi to attend Jackson State University (JSU). While there, he became a student DJ at JSU’s radio station, WJSU-FM 88.5 FM. Upon graduation he continued to work in radio for the next 25 plus years. Fuller stated, “While you all (the students) are in college, utilize your Department’s assets and build upon that to create the type of candidate that’s extremely viable in the workplace.”
Ahmad Harvey, a Mass Communications student stated, “Mr. Fuller’s speech showed the good and the bad of the Mass Communications field. As someone who will be working in this field, I think that that was good for me to hear.”
The program ended with a Question-and-Answer session for Fuller from the audience.
