Miss Alcorn Host Women’s Empowering Event

On Monday, March 3rd, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, Miss Alcorn State University (ASU) 2024-2025, Ariel Knott, hosted ‘The Women’s Empowering’ event at the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Hall on the second floor in the Gold Room.

The event’s evening began with an ice breaker which consisted of Bible scripture where everyone who was seated at a table had to interact with each individual there and discuss what the scripture meant to them.

Following that, a musical selection entitled “A Million Reasons” was played. Next, Gabrielle Robinson, Miss Freshman 2024-2025 recited an original poem where one of the more poignant lines within it stated, “Black is magic, Black is love, Black is family, Black is power.”

Following the poem, the meal was presented which consisted of shrimp, rotel, fried deviled eggs, chicken, finger sandwiches, rice and gravy.

After the meal, Miss Alcorn introduced the speaker of the event, Mychell Wilkins, who is a recording artist and public speaker. She began her presentations by asking the audience thought provoking questions which were, “What do you really want and why do you want it?” She explained to the attendees her response to the questions and gave them personal stories for them to relate to.

Amariah McCray, Ms. Junior 2024-2025, stated, “This event was a lot of fun and very inspiring. I enjoyed myself very much.”
