Lorrin Nichols, born to parents Trina Nichols and Leothas Nichols, is a Junior majoring in Animal Science at Alcorn State University (ASU).
Proudly hailing from “The City of Lights” Canton, Mississippi, Nichols has always known that her heart belonged to the world of veterinary care. “I’ve always known that I wanted to be a vet from a young age. I’ve had a love for animals since I was little,” she shared. Her passion extends far beyond the common household pets. She is inspired to learn about a wide variety of animals beyond just cats and dogs.
At Alcorn, she is actively involved in several campus organizations that reflect both her academic and personal interests. She is a Spring 2024 Initiate of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Gamma Phi Chapter, the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), and the Animal Science Club. Each organization provides an outlet for her to grow in leadership, service, and professional development.
She is motivated daily by a quote by Dwayne Johnson that guides her academic and personal journey: “Success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.” It’s a reminder that every small effort counts, and over time, those efforts lead to greatness.
Her greatest inspiration comes from her mother, whom she describes as a true jack of all trades. “She continues to push me even when I feel like I can’t go on. She’s my biggest fan and motivator,” she said. It is that unwavering support that fuels her determination to succeed, even during the most challenging moments. After graduating Alcorn, she plans to pursue a career in veterinary medicine by attending veterinary school or becoming a veterinarian assistant.
