Movie Review: iHOSTAGE

STARRING: LOES HAVERKORT, LOUIS TALPE, ADMIR SEHOVIC

DIRECTED BY: BOBBY BOERMANS

RELEASE DATE: APRIL 18, 2025

iHOSTAGE is a Netflix film based on the 2022 incident in Amsterdam where several people were held hostage at an Apple Store. The film was released on April 18, 2025 and is 1 hour and 42 minutes long. It is categorized as a thriller and features multiple popular Dutch actors.

iHOSTAGE begins when an armed man, Ammar, (Soufiane Moussouli) storms into an Apple Store in February of 2022 where a large group of people are gathered. After a few people manage to escape the gunman in a closet he manages to capture Ilian Petrov (Admir Sehovic) and holds him hostage in exchange for $200 million dollars in Bitcoin. The movie is a documented version of the incident although, in the movie, the plot is centered more around Petrov. Petrov decided to visit the Apple Store that day to buy himself a new pair of air pods which happens to leave him in the middle of an armed robbery. The movie details the sequence of events that happens during the hostage situation both inside and outside of the door regarding the different law enforcement agencies which helped to control the incident and ultimately, end it.

iHOSTAGE was slightly more educational than interesting, although Netflix did do a great job at giving viewers a more visual experience than reading an article regarding the situation. I would only recommend this movie to someone who enjoys real event films.
