Some of the world’s greatest super villains get a chance to turn a new leaf in this action thriller written and directed by David Ayer. An incredible idea coupled with amazing talents such as Will Smith and Margot Robbie makes the scene for an incredible cinematic experience. You don’t want to miss this one as most viewers haven’t. To date, Suicide Squad has earned a very impressive $637.8 million dollars.

With titles such as Sabotage and Training Day under his belt, viewers are in for a good one as Ayer perfectly conceptualizes a world where the bad guys finally got a chance to save the world. The movie begins by introducing the audience to the members of Task Force X, or more commonly the Suicide Squad. The team is headlined with a lot of unfamiliar super villains such as Deadshot (Will Smith) and even the Joker’s (Jared Leto) girlfriend, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie). When the world is seemingly preparing for World War 3 after the death of the Man of Steel, ruthless U.S. secret security agent Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is tasked with a plan to gather together Quinn, Deadshot, and more of the world’s worst to fight for a world so desperate to throw them away. Unfortunately for them World War 3 would have to wait as a greater threat was born with the creation of the team. Dr. June Moon (Cara Delevingne), encases the power to become an ancient and powerful witch-goddess named Enchantress. However, Moon becomes unable to control the  evil spirit that has granted her a spot on Task Force X. Enchantress seeks to lay waste to the world who laid waste to her so long ago.

The individual that Waller has assigned to lead this motley crew is  special agent Colonel Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman). One would imagine, why wouldn’t the villains just kill Colonel Flagg and Agent Waller and escape with their freedom? Agent Waller made sure that wouldn’t be an issue as all of the unlikely heroes were injected with an electronic explosive designed to explode at the touch of a button at any sign of resistance. Colonel Flagg is accompanied by Katana (Karen Fukuhara), a warrior yielding a mystical sword that can trap the souls of anyone that she kills. Explosively wired and tactically led by Colonel Flagg, the team begins with issues most villains wouldn’t see fitting such as, orders, control, and teamwork. Unfortunately for them, family bonding time would have to be postponed until the world was safe from the growing evil lurking in the heart of the city. Enchantress’ powers have grown, and with the awakening of her also very ancient and powerful brother, Incubus (Alain Chanoine), they have taken over Midway City and don’t intend to stop there. The potent witches’ powers allow her to turn normal citizens into mindless soldiers as she creates her army insisting on world destruction and domination.

As time passes turmoil unfolds for several different members of the team. For beginners, the Jokers’ love, Harley Quinn has to deal with the perceived death of the Joker after an escape attempt gone array. Moreover, the teams’ leader, Deadshot is dealing with issues on proving to his daughter that he is a good father. Supporting members of the team like pyro kinetic ex-gangster, El Diablo (Jay Hernandez) also faces pressures as his power is the cause of his pain as he deals with an episode that left behind a family-less father set on never using his power for violence again.  Ironically, the group’s individual issues act as the bonding glue that readies them for the battle of their lives. Even Colonel Flagg’s involvement is exposed as he and Dr. Moone, Enchantress’ human host, are in love. As Task Force X is finally banning together, the world around them begins to fall apart. With all of their own problems acting as the driving fuel for completing this mission, the Suicide Squad devises a plan at taking back a world that turned their back on them.

In the final battle, the Squad must face the enchanting goddess as she reaches her full power and her world-ending machine is finally finished, not to mention her summoned brother who yields the power of pure destruction at his fingertips, literally. As the team arrives to face her, Enchantress tries to manipulate their minds by making them see false realities and happier times with the very things that are driving them to defeat her. El Diablo realizes the game she is playing and gets the team to snap out of her spell. He then shows his true form as he transforms into his ‘curse’, a mystical flaming warrior, and faces Incubus ultimately sacrificing himself to defeat the powerful demigod. With Incubus gone, Deadshot shoots an explosive tossed into the machine by Killer Croc to destroy Enchantress’ plans on world demolition. After Enchantress’ plans are spoiled Colonel Flagg destroys the witches’ heart and frees Dr. Moone. A captured Agent Waller appears shortly after with the trigger button in hand letting them know that although their efforts were valiant they still were the world’s worst criminals and would have to be returned to their respective prisons.

David Ayers’ Suicide Squad relies on an unconventional concept on a superhero movie with unlikely characters filling the save-the-world shoes. With a great cast to fill never seen before roles, the movie takes viewers on a wild ride that will have them on the edge of their seats for most of the movie. Suicide Squad receives eight stars out of ten stars.
