Sony Pictures is primarily known for its long running Spiderman franchise, but it may have another hit on its hands with its latest film, Zombieland: Double Tap. The sequel to the cult classic horror-comedy has finally arrived and does not disappoint. Fans have demanded for Sony to continue the story for nearly a decade since its original release. The first film was known for its charismatic characters, gruesome violence, and hilarious take on the zombie genre. If the sequel can maintain that same energy as the first, then a third installment may come sooner rather than later.

Zombieland: Double Tap begins a decade after the events of the first film. The opening scene shows multiple carnivorous zombies attacking people while Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) narrates. Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Columbus, Wichita (Emma Stone), and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) are seen fighting off a hoard of zombies in front of the White House. As they are done with the battle, the team decides to celebrate their victory by moving in.

As months go by, the majority of the team is happy with their newfound home. However, as Little Rock grows older, she feels smothered by Tallahassee who still treats her like a child. Meanwhile, Columbus and Wichita are having problems as a couple. Because of their issues, Little Rock and Wichita decide to leave the next morning and not tell the guys. When Tallahassee and Columbus discover that the girls are gone, they drop everything and go out to find them.

After the girls have been missing for a month, the guys have gotten use to only having each other for company and mostly spend their days at the house. One day the guys go to the mall for a change of scenery, but instead find a new survivor, Madison (Zoey Deutch). When the guys find Madison, they decide to take her in. All of a sudden, Wichita shows up back at the house and tells the team that Little Rock has run away with a stranger to Florida. Now it’s up to Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Madison to find Little Rock and avoid zombies along the way.

Zombieland: Double Tap is just as fun and entertaining as the first movie that was released over 10 years ago. The original cast is still just as charming as ever while introducing great new characters as well. It has fantastic world building that leaves the audience wanting to know more. The sequel, without a doubt, lives up to the hype. With an abundance of zombie related movies and television series, this one adds a unique take on the genre that demands to be seen.

Zombieland: Double Tap receives 8 stars out of 10 stars.
