THE CAMPUS CHRONICLE

Music Review: Icon

Going into ‘Icon’, which was released on February 13, 2026, I expected the usual from Brent Faiyaz, smooth vocals, toxic honesty, and the emotionally distant vibe that he’s known for. However, this album felt different from what I’m used to hearing from him. Instead of focusing on toxicity and detachment, this project seems more centered around being in love and navigating relationships in a softer, more genuine way. It shows a different side of Faiyaz, which caught me off guard at first but made the album more interesting as I kept listening. Here are a few of the tracks that I really enjoyed:

● “Butterflies”: This was one of my favorites because of how smooth and laid-back it felt. Brent’s vocals flow effortlessly over the beat, and it gives off a calm, in-love type of vibe. It’s definitely one of the most repeated songs on the project.

● “Four Seasons”: I liked this one because it feels more expressive and emotional. The production stands out, and it adds depth to the album while still keeping Brent’s signature sound.

● “Vanilla Sky”: This track really caught my attention because of its dreamy feel. The vibe stays consistent all the way through, and it’s one of those songs that puts you in a certain mood as soon as it starts playing.

● “1 for You”: I liked this song because it feels more personal and sincere. It highlights the more genuine, relationship-focused side of Faiyaz that we don’t always get to hear in his music.

Overall, ‘Icon’ is a solid project that shows growth and a shift in subject matter for Faiyaz. While it may not have the same toxic edge that made some of his earlier music stand out, it offers a more mature and softer perspective on love. It’s smooth, easy to listen to, and the more I replayed it, the more it started to grow on me. It’s a good project with strong standout tracks. I highly recommend it.
