Newly Elected SGA President Celebrates Win with BBQ Gathering

Jordan Buck was elected as Alcorn State University’s (ASU) 2023-2024 SGA President on March 29, 2023, and celebrated her win at the campus’ Plaza. As a special thank you to students, faculty and staff, she provided plates filled with BBQ foods as well as freshly squeezed lemonade and gift bags filled with treats.

Buck is a Junior at Alcorn State University who is committed to bringing change on to the campus. Her campaign “Leading a Path We All Can Follow” was aimed at making sure students have their voices heard to make those necessary changes on campus. Her points includes “upholding a noble standard of ethics and community” and “engaging with the Alcorn community to build a brighter future.”

“It is an amazing feeling to represent the entire student body,” says Buck. “My main goal is to make sure the students are heard because their voices matter. Other goals include providing network opportunities with other Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) as well as incorporating mental heath days. Mental health matters, especially for college students. Another goal that I plan on implementing is expanding food choices for students.”

Campaign team members and volunteers helped Buck pass out goodies, thanking the student body for their support. With experience under her belt serving as Junior Class President for the 2022-23 school year, students are confident that she will continue to make efforts towards campus improvement.
