On April 21st from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Fraternity, The National Society of Pershing Rifles Company B-17 at Alcorn State University (ASU), hosted Operation Brave Donor Blood Drive on the Campus Plaza.
Operation Brave Donor Blood Drive was held for faculty, students and staff to donate blood to those in need. The National Society of Pershing Rifles Company B-17 partnered with Vitalent Blood Services from Port Gibson, Mississippi to host the event. Vitalent is a non-profit organization nationwide that collects blood from volunteers and then is donated to hospitals for patients who are in need. Jackie Tilman, a Vitalent nurse stated, “We are here collecting blood from donors all around because we have a shortage of blood at the hospitals nationwide.”
Many individuals from the Lorman campus participated in the event. Students that participated received community service hours, small tokens of appreciation and one donor received a $100 Visa gift card. Alexus Beene, a Junior from Tupelo, Mississippi stated, “Seeing the Pershing Rifles and Vitalent in an collaborative effort to help numerous people is really an awe inspiring momentous occasion. I hope that they will continue to work with one another to keep this helpful event going in the years to come.”
