On Thursday, February 6th, the Mass Communications Club (MCC) hosted their first event in the organization’s history, in the J.D. Boyd Library Auditorium. This event was entitled “He Say, She Say” which was a debate night hosted by the members. The student body was welcomed to come out and join the discussion.
The night began with laughter and music as the crowd slowly piled in on the rainy night. The event was originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 5th but was delayed due to unforeseen weather, however, this did not stop the MCC from having their event. President, Majesty Ferguson and Vice-President, Kennedi Bowman, opened the night welcoming all that had come. They went on to explain the rules of debate night and the different categories.
An icebreaker was performed, and the two winners of the icebreaker were the first contestants to debate. To make the night fun and interactive, the crowd chanted “State your case” before each contestant stated their opinions about the various topics given out. The questions included political views, relationships, generational patterns, and even expanded into social media related views. A total of 6 rounds were debated with two intermissions of “open discussion” categories. The most popular question debated was, “Does social media do more harm than good?” Surprisingly, this question was the only question with no justifiable winner.
The night ended with the group of 30 attendees, making fun Trillers to popular song “BOP” by artist DaBaby and taking silly pictures. Ferguson stated, “This was our first event as a club, so it was very exciting to see the wonderful outcome of it. In the future, we plan to have more fun events similar to our debate night so that we can shine a light on what our Department is all about.”
